USTA Serves Awards $1.5 Million to 41 Organizations in 2011

USTA Serves, the National Charitable Foundation of the USTA, has granted 41 community tennis and education organizations in the U.S. more than $400,000 in grants. Combined with scholarship awards, USTA Serves distributed more than $1.5 million in 2011.

Late Season Court Activity Monitor Shows Gains

In all four categories—New Players, Total Courts Used/Booked, League Play and Tournament Play—more tennis facilities noted an increase than a decrease during the late season of 2011 (July to end of September), according to the 2011 TIA Court Activity Monitor, which surveys 500 facilities across the country.

Racquet Sports Industry Magazine Names 2011 “Champions of Tennis”

RSIChampionsofTennisPat Freebody, who recently retired from the U.S. Tennis Association after decades of service to the sport of tennis in various capacities, has been named 2011 "Person of the Year" by Racquet Sports Industry magazine in the publication's January 2012 issue. RSI (www.racquetsportsindustry.com) is the world's largest tennis trade publication.

Global Tennis Rule Change Jan. 1 for 10 and Under Tennis

On January 1, 2012 the rules of tennis officially will be changed and require that 10 and Under Tennis tournaments be played utilizing smaller, lighter racquets and lower-bouncing balls on smaller courts. The change was adopted by the USTA in the summer of 2010.
